Premier League Round 23 Review
Another round of the premier league passes by, and the league table has taken a visible form and shape as each team will have either reconsidered or reiterated the objectives they had set at the beginning of the season.
Manchester United laid waste to the Baggies in a game that saw a ten man home side try to keep pace with the fiery Red Devils who hammered home five goals during the course of the match. With a game in hand, this victory takes them two points clear of a second placed Chelsea who are ahead of the red team from Merseyside on goal difference.
Stamford Bridge had something to cheer about, as the Blues are well on their way to restoring their reputation as a tough side at home. Kalou got his name on the scoresheet twice, as Middlesbrough are left in the cold trenches of the relegation zone.
There is many a slip, between the cup and the lip, and this was never clearer as it was portrayed in the game at Goodison Park. The Toffees began placidly, but soon emerged out of obscurity to take the game to the Gunners. The pressure bore fruit as Tim Cahill headed in a Baines cross past Almunia. The home side then grew into the game and begun to take control of the proceedings. However, with very little time until the referee was to blow the whistle, the Gunners best player by far put one past the goalkeeper to level the terms giving the away side an undeserved point.
The above result will only serve to help the Villans cause, as they made no mistake in establishing their desire to finish in the top four by overcoming Pompey by a lone goal from debutant Emile Heskey.
The Reds yet again showed their inability to capitalise on their domination of the game as they slumped to a draw against Wigan at the JJB Stadium. After dominating the possession heavily, the men from Anfield only had a Benayoun goal to show, when they went back into the dressing room at half time. The structure of the game showed no significant change when the teams returned, until Lucas took down Jason Koumas prompting the referee to point to the spot. Mido, on load from Middlesbrough, made no mistake, and the Merseysiders again went away with only a point to show for their efforts.
Here are the results of the mid week games:
Sunderland 1-0 Fulham

Chelsea 2-0 Middlesbrough
Manchester City 2-1 Newcastle United
