Liverpool’s title hopes got a severe blow as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Manchester City. Going into the game, the home side knew they had to go for the kill as Manchester United had already won against Blackburn on Saturday. Playing at Anfield, the Reds failed to get that win and now trail by seven points behind leaders Man United who are at a solid 62 points.

The match rarely saw Liverpool get into the stride that they show early on and half time saw the score standing at 0-0. Then in the 51st minute came the threatening deflection off a Liverpool striker and was hit in for the goal by Alvaro Arbeloa to put Man City in the lead. Kuyt got the leveler for Liverpool in the 78th minute but the match’s fate seemed to be going towards a draw by then.

Others making some move in the Premier League table were Chelsea and Aston Villa who played each other on Saturday. The Blues won 1-0 and inched a point above Villa. The sides exchanged positions as Chelsea now stands third with 52 points and Villa is fourth with 51.

The awaited encounter of Newcastle and Everton ended in a draw and was marred by a red card for Kevin Nolan in the first half. Fulham expectedly dumped West Brom 2-0 and sent them at the bottom of the table with 22 points. Goalless till half time, Fulham came in their true form in the second half and Zamora and Johnson scored in the 61st and 72nd minutes respectively to seal the hopes of West Brom to jump out of the relegation zone. Arsenals string of draws continued as they had a goalless draw with 11th placed Sunderland on Saturday.
