Chelsea and Liverpool book a place in the quarters of Champions League
Chelsea booked a place for themselves in the quarter finals of the Champions League as they trumped Juventus after some resistance in the 2-2 encounter yesterday from the Italian side. Both teams showed their best side but the hosts were the brighter on till half side. The goals came from the boots of Iaquinta in the 19th minute and evened out just before half time by Essien in the 45th minute. Del Piero put Juventus ahead in the 74th minute but Drogba gave them the equaliser in the 85th minute.
A pacy match saw Chelsea enter the quarters on the edge they had because of the home win over Juventus earlier. Liverpool gave Real Madrid a 4-0 slap in a match that saw some superb play from the red side. The England club showed total class as Fernando Torres shined superbly. He put Liverpool ahead in the 16th minute itself and was followed by two goals by Gerrard, first in the 28th minute and then in the 47th. Substitute Andrea Dossena scored his first for the club as he netted one in the 88th minute. Cassius’s performance in front of the Real castle was the silver lining in the cloud as he was the only one who held the fort for them.
Bayern Munich had a goal fury in their match against Sporting Lisbon as they scored 7-1 to enter the quarter finals. Germany team star Podolski scored twice to give the start that the whole team contributed to. Panathinaikos took the away match 2-1 and defeated Villa Real.
