Premier League Results

Another week passes us by, as the current season in the strongest football league in the world is slowly drawing to a close. Some clubs have done well, while others will feel that they still have time to push forward and achieve their objectives.

Aston Villa are yet to record a win since beating Blackburn during the first week of February, since they drew away to Bolton. The battle for the three points was an open one, and both teams created enough chances to score, but the keepers were doing well. With only two minutes to go before the halftime break, Ashley Young got his name chanted by the visiting fans as he put one past the keeper. But the Trotters started to play some good football when the game resumed, and got their leveller when Tamir Cohen scored from close range. The game ended in a deadlock at one goal apiece, and it was a point well earned for the hosts. However, any lingering hope of a Villanous fourth spot was dashed, since the Gunners notched up a victory and raced away to a ten-point lead over the fifth placed side.

It was business as usual for Liverpool, who overcame a ten man Hull City to continue their chase in order to finish at the pinnacle of the Premier League. The Tigers performed admirably, and even looked like they may spring a surprise on the Merseysiders, but Alonso drilled one home at the stroke of halftime. A little before two thirds of the game was completed, disaster struck the home side when Folan was sent off to take an early shower owing to his transgression against Skrtel. The Benitez boys doubled their lead when Kuyt scored, but Geovanni pulled one back after 72 minutes. However, the Dutchman bagged a brace through a header to secure the three points for his team. The home side may have lost the game, but performances such as this will go a long way in the relegation dogfight that they currently face.

The Lilywhites took a two goal lead at Old Trafford, but an inspired second half performance saw the Red Devils put five goals past Gomes to retain the decisive lead over the second placed side who are hot on the trail.
