barcelona_champions_leagueIn a spectacular last minute goal by Andres Iniesta, Barcelona ended Chelsea’s dreams of a repeat of last years final in the Champions League as the second leg semi final between the two clubs ended in a 1-1 draw. Aggregating 1-1, Barcelona went through to the finals on the away goal advantage.

Playing at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea had the perfect start as Michael Essien scored in the ninth minute. The first half followed moments of aggressive play from the Spanish side and some very good defending from the Blues. Dani Alves and Eric Abidal were yellow carded and will be missing out on the final.

But it was a slightly unlucky encounter for the hosts as they had four close penalties being refused, three of which were good goal chances for them. Drogba had to sit out of the match after the second half as he had to be substituted for injury. There were moments of fuelled dissent amongst the Blues as they were refused penalty after penalty. A lot of emotions and drama were witnessed as the Chelsea player plead for some deserving penalties to referee Tom Ovrebo. Some angry scenes were witnessed at the end of the match right after the Iniesta leveller.

But nothing can be taken away from Barcelona who played like the Spanish giants they are and were only stopped by some superb defending from the Premier League side. The final minutes breaking open through the 90th minute goal sent them into the final. Now they play Manchester United in the finals in Rome, Italy.
