Messi ,Ronaldo and Kaka – More to look forward to in the Football World
With the Barclays Premier League as the most popular football league in the world, well ahead of the Spanish La Liga and the Italian Serie A , you think of the best players playing in all the major football leagues of the world immediately you will recall three youngsters who often impress us by their skills and ball control. Tall Portuguese Midfielder Cristiano Ronaldo who is an absolute star for Manchester United, Brazilian Midfielder Kaka who shows his magic regularly for AC Milan and Lionel Messi of Argentina often wins games single handedly for Barcelona.
Brazilian Kaka who was declared European Footballer and World Footballer of the year 2007 for his exploits for Italian giant AC Milan had a quiet 2007/2008 season by his high standards scoring 15 goals in Serie A and 2 in UEFA Champions League. Consequently, AC Milan ended up fifth in the league table and could not defend their Champions League title. In 2006 Football World Cup held in Germany, Kaka was not able to perform up to his abilities and could not prevent the defending champions from crashing out in quarter finals at the hands of France. Coming season there are reports that English club Chelsea are making offers to the Brazilian star, but the transfer seems unlikely.
South American star Lionel Messi, who often reminds us of great Diego Maradonna on the football pitch, also did not had the best of seasons for Barcelona which failed to win the La Liga title for second successive year but showed his class in the Champions League scoring 6 goals in 7 matches. Messi who was the runner up for the World Footballer award last year also was not able to help Argentina in 2006 World Cup either. With coach Frank Rijkaard, all set to leave Messi has no plans to leave Barcelona and he will continue to show his skills for the Spanish Club.
And now comes the third youngster who for the last two seasons has really come of age for his club Manchester united. Although he possessed all these skills that he has but football pundits feel that since last two seasons the Portuguese Midfielder is playing for the victory of the team and not for his personal glory. In the 2007/08 season for Manchester United, he scored 31 goals in the league and 11 in other competitions playing a major part in Man U’s league title and UEFA Champions league title. Ronaldo who has become a free kick specialist scored many crucial goals for his club and hit the back of the net many times by his Rocket free kick, a term used by football experts because of the low trajectory and immense speed of his strike. Although Portugal was knocked out in quarter finals by Germany in a 3-2 nail biter, but Roanldo’s exceptional talent was obvious and he in all the group stage games was at the top of his game. Although he is loved at the Old Trafford, but he has recently shown signs that he may move to Spain to represent la liga champions Real Madrid. Ronaldo has recently received many awards for his performance and we can safely say that right now he is the best in the world.
With the emergence of many talented youngsters like Fernando Torres, David Villa, Frank Ribery and Cesc Fabregas the competition is tough to become the world’s best but in the coming years who ever holds this title, it is going to be a treat for the football fans all over the world and the next season is a must watch!
