Edit – LIVE SCORES HERE
Australia are aiming to appear in their second successive World Cup finals in South Africa next year, but to help achieve their aim they must beat the already-qualified Japanese. The two teams met at World Cup 2006 in Germany, with the Aussies coming out on top 3-1. A star of that game was substitute Tim Cahill who scored two goals that afternoon.
He will again be part of the Socceroos side. The former Millwall ace has had a fantastic season with Everton helping them to 5th place in the Premier League and also to an FA Cup final. Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer was also in brilliant form last season, helping the Cottagers into a seventh place finish and European football next season.
He could be an important player for Pim Verbeek side. Other notable players in Verbeek’s squad are former Premier League stars Harry Kewell and Lucas Neill, with Celtic striker Scott McDonald also in the squad.
The Japanese became the first team to qualify for next year’s World Cup finals, after a 1-0 victory over Uzbekistan. Their team is lead by Celtic playmaker Shunsuke Nakamura, who is the side’s vice-captain. A future star to look out for is Shinji Kagawa, who in his home nation has been dubbed the Nakata. The starlet has already been linked with Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.
