Korea Republic – Iran Preview – World Cup Qualifier Live 17th June 2009

Having qualified for the World Cup already, one half of Korea will be smiling in gaiety as their country has done it without suffering a loss for quite some time now. This will have to change if Iran is to make it to South Africa, since anything less than a win will put them out of the race to a direct entry into the biggest event in football.

Unfortunately for the visitors, a win alone will not guarantee them a place in South Africa, since they would need DPRK and Saudi Arabia to play out a draw.

However, a win will certainly guarantee Iran a qualification spot, at the very least. Should they finish in third place, they will have a home and away showdown with the third placed team in Group 1. The winners would go on to play the inter confederation playoff against New Zealand in order to cement their place in South Africa.
