Liverpool midfield doing a disappearing act!

I have to say I feel sorry for Liverpool at the moment, it seems that their midfield is about to be decimated. Xavi Alonso and Javier Mascherano are both wishing for moves to sunny climes in Spain and Steven Gerrard is defending himself in a court case. Xavi Alonso seems to favour a move to big spending Real Madrid, but he has also been linked with Chelsea and Manchester City.

As hard as manager Rafa Benitez tries to fend off interest, he’s fighting a losing battle. Alonso still feels aggrieved at Benitez trying to sell him last summer and the pairs relationship has been frosty ever since. He has refused to rule out a move away from Anfield, which has really put the writing on the wall for the Reds.

Argentinian international Mascherano has this week revealed this week that he wishes to move to Spain, with Barcelona the favourites to capture the 25 year-old. He says he’s tired of England and looks likely to join the European champions. A major problem for the star has been the fact that his wife has been unable to secure a permanent Visa. Now some of us might think its heaven to have time away from our missus, the Argentine is obviously concerned about his other half.

Liverpool have issued hands off warnings and quoted ridiculous fees for both the stars, but they are likely to sell as they won’t want two want away stars in their squad. The speculation hasn’t helped the Reds preparation for the new season, neither has Gerrard’s situation. Come August Benitez will be hoping that everything’s rosy in the garden of Anfield again.
