In view of the absurd, the obvious, as well as the obnoxious, here are the latest transfer rumours that are doing the rounds…

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is believed to have set his sights on Daniele De Rossi, the man who is spoken of as the successor to Francesco Totti at Roma. Meanwhile, Patrick Vieira is rumoured to be on the verge of a shock return to the club that made him famous, as the Gunners have been found lacking in the experienced players’ department. The gaffer is reportedly in favour of the Frenchman returning to play his trade with the north London club.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa are said to be interested in Tottenham Hotspur misfit Darren Bent, whose future with the Lilywhites looks bleak following the arrival of Peter Crouch.

Chelsea have reportedly been told that they will have to fork out around £80 million in order to sign Franck Ribery. Roman Abramovich is believed to have convinced John Terry to stay by promising the captain that world class signings would arrive at the Bridge. However, it is unclear if the millions will be paid to the Bavarian giants, who are keen to make a killing on the market.

Phil Brown has been scouring the transfer market to boost the Hull City squad after their survival by a hair’s breadth last season, and the Tigers are being constantly linked with almost every well paid player to go down with one of the three teams that were relegated last season. Currently, Habib Beye and Joey Barton have been linked with a move to the KC Stadium. The former is wanted by Brown because of Sam Ricketts leaving to Bolton Wanderers for a fee of £3m.
