Chelsea clinch Community shield, Fergie fumes

community-shieldCarlo Ancelotti was given a grand welcome by his new team as Chelsea beat Manchester United 4-1 on penalties. A closely poised match played at the Wembley saw both teams standing at 2-2 at the end of match time. But The Blues emerged victorious on penalties and saw Fergie fuming at the referee in the end. Sir Alex Ferguson felt that Chelsea player Michael Ballack should have been sent off when he tried to obstruct Patrice Evra.

Man United did not start with their new players, Antonio Valencia and Michael Owen and Chelsea also didn’t field Yuri Zhirkov. It was Nani who got the score board moving first as he scored in the 10th minute itself. Valencia then replaced Nani who got a shoulder injury. Reportedly, this injury might keep him out for a couple of matches. Ricardo Carvalho then levelled for Chelsea who then went up 2-1 with a Frank LAmpard close to the pole strike.

The Premier League champions then had some scare as Chelsea led the match defensively with some good keeping from Peter Cech. But in the last few minutes, Rooney scored off a Giggs strike to level the match. It was then left to Penalties to settle the silverware. Michael Carrick was the only one to score for United as Cech stopped strikes from Ryan Giggs and Evra. For The Blues, Lampard, Ballack and Didier Drogba were on target with Kalou giving in the final nail in the coffin.
