Tottenham defeat Liverpool at White Hart Lane!
Tottenham have defeated title hopefuls Liverpool 2-1 at White Hart Lane. The first half was cagey affair with the two sides feeling each other out. Tottenham had slightly the better of the first half and former Liverpool striker Robbie Keane was denied twice by Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina. Tottenham did however take the lead in the 43rd minute with a fantastic strike. Benoit Assou-Ekotto struck a brilliant effort from outside the box which arrowed in to the top corner of the net and Spurs went in 1-0 up at the break.
Liverpool came out brighter in the second half and in the 56th minute full-back Johnson went on a mazy run and was only stopped by Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes bringing him down in the penalty area. Captain Steven Gerrard stepped up and fired the penalty home.
Tottenham took only three minutes to regain the lead. Luka Modric’s free-kick was headed home by debutant defender Sebastien Bassong. Liverpool striker Fernando Torres headed wide from close range, but that was about as close as the Reds came to equalising. They are now left to wonder if they really do have what it takes to be Premier League champions this season.
