Manchester United 2-1 Arsenal – Gunners Downed At Old Trafford

The first half began with the teams cancelling each other out, but both sides began to slowly grow into the game with Arsenal emerging as the dominant force throughout. Quick runs followed by precise passes were the order of the day, and the Gunners maintained their form throughout.
Andrey Arshavin was taken down in the area a little before half-time, but the referee deemed that it was not a penalty. But the player was rewarded when a long range shot caught Ben Foster slightly off guard, leaving the keeper to palm the ball before it flew into the back of the net.
Manchester United may have been given the hair dryer treatment during the break, as they emerged a resolute and rejuvenated side when play resumed. A little before the hour mark, Wayne Rooney went down after a challenge by Manuel Almunia, which prompted the referee to point to the spot. The striker stepped up to take the spot kick and made no mistake in putting the Red Devils back on terms.
The equaliser left the Gunners rattled, as Abou Diaby scored at the wrong end within minutes, after a Ryan Giggs free-kick saw the player produce a perfect header into his own net.
The north London side came back and tried hard to find the equaliser, but were unlucky to have dropped points as the man in charge brought the game to a halt.
