Blackburn Rovers notched up their first win of the season with a good 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

El-Hadji Diouf broke the deadlock a little before twenty minutes, and slotted one home through the goalkeeper’s legs to give the hosts a well earned lead.

After the break, manager Mick McCarthy rallied his troops and made substitutions that had an immediate effect as the Wolves looked like they would get back into the game. But any hopes of a recovery soon faded away as the home side took the reins close to the hour mark, owing to a goal by Jason Roberts. He almost got another goal some time later, but stumbled, thereby allowing David Dunn to hammer home the final nail in the coffin.

The visitors bagged a consolation goal in the 88th minute, when a corner resulted in Stefan Maierhofer showing some good control and eventually putting the ball into the back of the net from close range.

As the man in charge blew the whistle to signal full-time, Blackburn celebrated their first win of the season.
