Ukraine Crashes English Streak with a 1-0 Win
The eight successive International win came to a halt with a loss away to Ukraine in Dnipro Stadium on Oct 10. Ukraine won the match with one goal scored by Sergei Najarenko at 29 minutes. Coach Fabio Capello was disappointed as England failed to impress with big names like Gareth Barry, Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, Steven Gerard, and Frank Lampard playing in the game.
On the other hand, Ukraine superstar Andre Shevchenko also failed to deliver his level, as he missed the easy opportunity to score, as he hit the bar post with the spot kick offered to Ukraine at 14 minutes after a defensive blunder by Rio Ferdinand and saw goalkeeper Robert Green sent away with a red card.
England goalkeeper Robert Green made a mistake by opposing Ukraine midfielder Artem Milvosky and as a result, was given a red card by the referee. So being 10 men England was battling through the whole match.
England got a chance to level the score. However, Lampard missed the goal post after snatching the ball from Rooney who also missed a chance at the last moment of the match. England has been dealt a huge blow as striker, Wayne Rooney, picked up an injury during this match and will almost surely miss the next encounter.
The group standing is an interesting position. As they got a win, Ukraine has opened a golden chance to play off match. Their next match will be held with Andorra, who is at the last position of the group 6. Croatia follows Ukraine by one point.
