Manchester United Got the Better of the Legend Killers
Manchester United has reached the English League Cup quarterfinals defeating legend killers, Barnsley, who had defeated both Liverpool and Chelsea last season en route to the semifinals.
Red Devils fielded a second string but included Michael Owen, who returned the favor with flying colors by scoring the second goal for United. The first goal was however scored as early as the sixth minute by Danny Welbeck. It was not easy for United as they had the experienced campaigner, Gary Neville being sent off for a tackle on Adam Hammill.
Meanwhile Barnsley had their own chances and was close to scoring when Daniel Bogdanovic headed away at the post during the first half. Later on Barnsley had a couple of chances which also went to waste but Michael Owens’s good, quick feet and predator instinct earned him a lot of credit for his second goal.
On the other hand, Tottenham Hotspurs are looking for their hat trick of League Cup finals after beating Everton 2-0. They were the finalists and runners up last season to Manchester United. In some of the other matches, Blackburn Rovers defeated Peterborough 5-2. Portsmouth had a rare success with a 4-0 home victory against Stoke City and Aston Villa defeated Sunderland in penalties after the 0-0 full time draw.
