Late Own Goal Rescues Manchester United against CSKA Moscow
Manchester United survived a scare at Old Trafford and booked a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League, when they equalized in the final minutes against CSKA Moscow.
A rejuvenated visiting side caught the defense of the Red Devils off-guard, as they took a lead in the first half with an excellent acute angle shot from Dzagoev, who lashed the ball past Van Der Sar to the back of the net.
Even though Owen equalized very soon, but goals from Milos Krasic and Vasili Berezutski on either side of the first half made it a difficult mountain to climb. Things got even tougher when a certain penalty was not given to Darren Fletcher; adding to his woes, the Scot was even booked for diving.
It was all but over for the home-side and their record of 22 games winning streak at home was on line of being broker, when Paul Scholes came to the rescue. He headed a Neville freekick to make it 2-3 for the Red Devils.
In the injury time, a wayward strike by Antonio Valencia, who otherwise had a great outing, caught a deflection from CSKA defender and got Manchester United a point that they needed to go into the next stage of the Champions League.
Wayne Rooney, who had his first baby (a boy) earlier, would have ended the game with full points for United, but his shot was wonderfully saved by Igor Akinfeev, who had a tremendous outing in the game.
