Liverpool held to a draw, Arsenal win
Liverpool’s Champions League hopes got a beating when they conceded a 90th minute goal to Lyon’s Lisandro in their encounter last night. Just seven minutes back, Ryan Babel had done his bit and put the Reds in the lead. With this 1-1 draw, Lyon enter the last 16 while Liverpool still five points behind second placed Fiorentina. They have two games to go, against Debrecan and Fiorentina, both will be must-win encounters.
Arsenal secured their qualification with an emphatic 4-1 victory over AZ Alkmaar. Cesc Fabregas was the architect of the win as he scored twice, first in the 25th and then in the 52nd minute. Nasri scored in the 43rd minute while Diaby in the 72nd minute. Alkmaar got some solace with the 82nd minute goal from Jeremain Lens.
Dynamo Kiev were outplayed at home by Inter Milan 1-2 while in another encounter Fiorentina won 5-2 against Debrecan. Liverpool will be playing against both these teams now to get a spot in the main draw. Rubin Kazan had a lazy goal less draw with Barcelona who are already in the main draw. Sevilla and VFB Stuttgart had a 1-1 draw while Standard Liege defeated Olympiakos 2-0. Another draw was witnessed at Unirea Urziceni who drew 1-1 with Rangers.
