Hull get much awaited win
Hull defeated Stoke city 2-1 in their Premier League encounter to ease the pressure in the Hull camp to a great deal. It was the visitors who scored the first goal and took the lead and Hull seemed set to another defeat. But a goal in the second half and the second in the stoppage time got them the much awaited victory.
Hull boss Phil Brown must have seen the weight loosen on his shoulders as Jan Vennegoor scored the goal in extra time to seal the match 2-1. This win also made Hull jump out of the relegation zone with the edge of a single point. Mathew Etherington had scored in the 29th minute for Stoke and that is when Hull pressed the panic button. The home fans heaved a sigh of relief when a curling shot from Seyi Olofinjana hit the nets. And the final effort from Vennegoor made the whole stadium roar up in glory.
The team that replaced Hull in the relegation zone were West Ham who lost 1-2 to Everton. The Toffees were the visibly dominant team on the ground as they scored first through Saha in the 27th minute. Dan Gosling scored on his second attempt at the goal in the 64th minute. An own goal by Tony Hibbert a minute later got West Ham to 1-2 but they couldn’t do anything to capitalise on it. Now they find themselves in the danger zone.
A mid table encounter between Fulham and Wigan Athletic went into a 1-1 draw. This match saw a record low crowd of this Premier League season with only over 16000 people attending. Emeson Boyce got the first goal and put Wigan ahead. Clint Dempsey made it 1-1 for Fulham around half time. But none could score after that and the match stayed locked at 1-1.
