The Ligue 1 in France showcased one of the most important clashes of the season, as Olympique Lyonnais and Olympique de Marseille clashed to produce a game that will be remembered for many years to come. There were five goals scored in the final 15 minutes of the game, and Jeremy Toulalan scored an own goal to eventually ensure that both sides walked away with a point after an incredible 5-5 draw.

Meanwhile, in the Scottish Premier League, top placed Celtic were held to a draw away from home by a Falkirk side toying with relegation. The hosts were leading 2-1 after a little more than an hour had been played, but a brace from Scott McDonald ensured that the Bairns were sent into a shroud of misery that encompassed all that has come to pass for them this season. However, with less than ten minutes to go, a goal from Mark Stewart brought cheer back on the faces of the home fans as their team snatched a point from the jaws of defeat. Interestingly, the Bhoys stayed at the top of the table, while Falkirk remained rooted to the bottom following the 3-3 result.

Over in sunny Spain at the Vicente Calderon, two arch-rivals were taking on each other in a derby game. Real and Atletico de Madrid played a hard fought 90 minutes, but it was the Galacticos who emerged triumphant with a 3-2 victory. They hammered in three goals to take a comfortable lead and stay in the driver’s seat for the most part, while a late comeback by Los Colchoneros brought about a tense ending. But the visitors held on to claim all three points.

Finally at the Erdivisie, league leaders Twente secured a lone goal victory over Ajax courtesy a header from Bryan Ruiz, when he rose to nod the ball home from a Theo Janssen free-kick. This is the first loss in 18 games for the Amsterdam based club.
