Football News for Wednesday, November 10

For those wondering if things in the Merseyside could get any worse… we now know the answer. It’s a resounding YES!

Steven Gerrard converted a penalty that shouldn’t have ever been given and yet it wasn’t enough as Liverpool only managed to draw with lowly Birmingham City, 2-2, at Anfield on Monday night.

Rafa Benitez will be ruing the fresh injury concerns his Liverpool outfit face, more so than the result.

Albert Riera and Yossi Benayoun were both substituted with injuries while Dan Agger came out of the game with a problem as well.

Benitez told the BBC: “We have a problem with Riera, Agger with his back and Yossi, but Steve was good,” said the Spaniard. Couple this with the suspected sports hernia of Fernando Torres and it seems as if the Reds can’t catch a break.

Reds fans will be even further disgruntled to have a glance at the Premier League table where Liverpool, who only had two losses all of last season and finished second, are now 11 points off of mighty Chelsea.

In other big news in football:

Ashley Cole will have a fresh spell on the sidelines for Chelsea. The current left back for the table-topping Blues A source has said: “It is unclear how long the left-back will be sidelined for, with Chelsea’s spokesman describing the injury as a depressed fracture of the tibia.”

And, as of this morning, Phil Brown is still the boss at Hull City. Reports suggested that Brown, who has steered Hull to one point above the relegation zone would be sacked after their most recent match— a 2-1 win over Stoke.
