Football’s Highest Governing Body is bound to be pressed on Henry saga

The Irish Justice Minister had already asked Football’s Highest Governing Body, FIFA for a replay match for the World Cup qualification after the controversial incident of Thierry Henry handling the ball in the Irish penalty zone before passing the ball to teammate William Gallas who headed home. A certain wrong decision can be so cruel and decisive for one team and joy for another and Ireland knows it well but they have called it right as its Fifa’s law of fair play and so it should be maintained.

Meanwhile the Irish PM has also backed up the Justice Minister and the Irish FA in a replay match. The Irish FA had been suggested by one leading lawyer about giving a writ against the incident to Fifa owing to the negligence of the bizarre incident. The entire world has witnessed until Friday where the clippings had been all over the news channels, Newspapers and the internet-immediately after the results. So it’s natural that pressure is mounting upon Fifa and it is to be seen what is the action taken?

A senator and famous solicitor Lisa McDonald has a clear cut view who has stated that the Irish FA must look towards Fifa for a solution as they are the only option for help and if the highest governing body cannot find a way then there must be compensation measures taken. As Fifa encourages “fair play”, “tolerance”, “sportsmanship” and “transparency”.

The Irish Justice Minister had earlier said that there might not be a rematch or any action taken as Ireland is comparatively minnows in World Football. He also said that the country owes a lot to the young fans and the result remaining the same would only mean that they would learn that anybody can win by cheating. So he indicated towards the breach of Fifa’s fair play in this act.

Senator McDonald who is the spokeswoman for law and order has said that a case must be lodged against loss of earnings. She has been quite clear and strong in her views that if Fifa cannot change the score or the situation then the loss of earnings must be countered and the Irish players must be provided promotions, increments in salary and sponsors which they might have received in the World Cup. She also added that the inability of Fifa to handle this incident would be subject to severe and strict legal actions.

A Fifa spokesperson however said today that they have received a letter from the Irish Federation but did not hint at any definite action being taken or as to when might it be taken.
