Liverpool was looking for the winning glory to start it afresh while Manchester City were looking to overcome their five successive draws but it was not to happen. Liverpool will have to wait it seems and Manchester City would have to look for that match when they will win for sure.

The result did no good to either of the two teams as Manchester City has 21 points while Liverpool has 20. It was Steven Gerrard’s return to Anfield where he played the full 90 minutes and the first half ended goalless. The first goal of the match came as play resumed after the break and Martin Skrtel whose earlier header was called offside put the Reds ahead through his touch in a Steven Gerrard free kick in the 50th minute.

The same defender was at fault for not marking Emmanuel Adebayor who scored the equalizer at the 69th minute through a free header from Bellamy’s corner. City looked refreshed after the equalizer and every time they received the ball, they looked dangerous. Soon after Shaun Wright Phillips found open space and Ireland was again unmarked as he curled the ball towards the Liverpool goal to lead in the 76th minute. City did hold the hold for a matter of few seconds where another defensive lapse allowed Liverpool to equalize through Yossi Benayoun.
