Chelsea has secured its leading position in Group D with a game still remaining at hand. Chelsea’s impressive run and winning legion continues. Nicolas Anelka was the only goal scorer of the match which sealed Chelsea’s position at the top.
Anelka scored the only goal of the match in the 69th minute through a header and Malouda was the maker in this case. The game was more or less splendid from Anelka’s point of view as he looked in great shape and form. Porto was the team that gave the early scare through Fernando Beluschi whose came off the crossbar. But eventually it was Chelsea who continued and stretched their win to 7 out of 8 in all competitions.
All throughout the game, Malouda was quite impressive through the left in the wide diamond midfield formation while Anelka was the first to make the opponent keeper work out by his attempt at the goal. Both Ballack and Drogba shot wide of the Porto goal But deco also came close early in the second half. Malouda had numerous balls curled in but both Drogba and Anelka failed to reach out to them.
Porto meanwhile had substituted Silvestre Valera in place of Hulk and he tried an acrobatic volley over the Chelsea goal. Ballack was substituted by Michael Essien who had a tantalizing run through the middle that created the opening for the only goal of the match. It was a nice workout from Essien to Zhirkov and then to Malouda and then Anelka for the final move.
