Manchester United Champions lose to Besiktas

Manchester United lost a home game to much less fancied opponents, Besiktas when all other Premier league teams have won at Europe. Manchester United went into the match with as many as eight changes from the starting line ups or the frontline. United’s 23 matches unbeaten record in Europe has ended which was somehow restored a couple of weeks ago against CSKA Moskva.

Meanwhile Besiktas are delighted to show something to their enthusiastic fans and especially after their 8-0 thrashing in their last visit to England at the hands of Liverpool. The ball was played in the Besiktas half for much of the early minutes of the first half and United did have a chance with Nemanja Vidic’s header. But it was a counter attack that led to the goal when Matteo Ferrari sent a ball left wards for Ismail Koybasi. He passed the ball to Tello after crossing the half-line and Tello covered some 35 metres before letting lose a superb shot that flew past Ben Foster and hit the top corner.

Manchester created chances with the teenage strikers, Macheda and Welbeck combining well. But a defiant Rustu Reckber at goal in the opposition ranks needed some piece of brilliance from a Manchester player. United did enjoy the possession but not the chances. Chances that are needed to score he goal came from Overtan’s shot which was saved at near post by the opposition veteran goalkeeper.

Fabian Ernst and Michal Fink of Besiktas did impress with their touch play and efforts while United later introduced Owen, Evra and Carrick but United failed to score but are still topping Group B.
