Liverpool can keep all the Champions League disappointments at bay as they won their Barclays Premier League away match. Liverpool did win but they failed to impress everybody out there. Once again without Torres and Gerrard looking a shadow of his own self it was rather a lucky win than a good win.
A win is a win though but this match is bound to make Rafa Benitez think seriously about the whole composition of his team. This Merseyside derby saw Liverpool score the first one goal of the match at the 11th minute through an own goal. This match had huge expectations from both sides with Liverpool seeking the winning ways and Everton looking to come out of the relegation zone. It was a worst nightmare for Joseph Yobo who accidentally fell at the wrong end and deflected Javier Mascherano’s 20 yard shot which went into the goal.
This match had everything in it with Javier Mascherano and Tim Cahill involving into a brat with kicking and even warning that followed. But Mascherano had the last laugh with the goal But Everton were impressive throughout many occasions in the first half. Twice the net was found through Jo who was called offside and Diniyar Bilyaletdinov who shot wide from the 6 yard area in front of the Liverpool goal.
Steven Pienaar also came twice close to scoring but Reina was equal to his task. Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard looked a shadow of himself and after the break it was Everton who took on the attack to Liverpool. Jamie Carragher and Daniel Agger were under constant pressure and Liverpool still managed to hold on as Reina continued to show Great Spirit. However, Gerrard has his part to play with 10 minutes remaining on the clock when Riera’s ball headed by Kuyt was slashed away by Yobo which fell to Gerrad and he set up Riera and then Kuyt finished the final move.
