The Eastland’s was set ablaze – Premier League
Manchester City took the game to Chelsea, increased the pace, steadied the momentum and won the match to win every City heart at the City of Manchester Stadium in Eastland’s. City did answer back at every critic and showed the world that they can raise their game against the best opponents and came up with a victory against the best in the Premier League.
City had been on a run of incessant draws with 7 draws in a row and they only needed their front liners to perform for anything great to happen. Not many considered a win for City but they have lost only a single game so far. City was into the match right from the go with Chelsea dominating the midfield at the initial stages. It was a match featuring the high spending big guns clashing with one looking to increase the lead at the top while the other looking desperately for a win.
City meant serious business and started with all the star signings Robinho, Adebayor, Tevez and Shay Given playing his own at the goal. Chelsea were into the lead as early as the 8th minute when Ballack delivered a wonderful ball after tricking Barry which was blocked by Given at the first shot attempt and then again at the second attempt by Anelka but eventually the ball bounced back to hit Adebayor on his back and entered the goal line.
City took the attack to Chelsea and it was only before the break that set piece enabled confusion in the Chelsea defence where Wright Philips’s shot struck Richards’ arm and fell for Adebayor who pushed the ball into the second touch. It was an unintentional handball from Richards and the goal was give. Adebayor returned the favor and the game was more open for the 2nd half.
It was again some pulsating football at both ends with attacks and counter attacks. The full Stadium of Manchester started to shout behind the team and at the 55th minute of the match an unnecessary foul committed off the ball from Carvalho stabbing at the back of Tevez allowed a free kick. Tevez took a lower curled shot which passed through the wall and deceived Cech. The score line was 2-1 and Ancelotti made immediate changes when he brought Belleti in place of Carvalho and Mikel in place of Ballack. City did lose Richards to an injury and it brought the young Onouha to the field and his error of committing a foul on Drogba inside a box. The penalty was given and it seemed that Chelsea was in it again but a fantastic save by Shay Given again raised the crowd. Chelsea lost John Terry who limped off the ground and City had a bigger blow with Bridge leaving the field after a tackle with Belleti. Robinho made way for Kompany at the closing stages and there was another chance for Drogba in the final stages when he shot wide of the target.
