Liverpool once again without Fernando Torres kept Kuyt up in front as a lone man with support from N’gog but the later missed the closest an the best chance of the match. The cold and dull afternoon on Saturday at the Ewood Park did match the quality of the game as both sides missed a real shot at the goal.

It was a great result for Blackburn and Manager Sam Allardyce who returned after the surgery and Blackburn winning a close encounter last mid week against Chelsea.

The Pompey’s came out of all the criticism and won the 3rd match of their season and probably have the best chance of lifting their position from the bottom. Burnley did not do anything better for winning this match. Portsmouth missed the best chance when Aruna Dindane missed a sitter from 6 yards out of the opponent goal and the first goal eventually came at the 64th minute through Hermann Hreidarsson shooting at the bottom right corner of the net while Dindane finally made up two of his missed opportunities and the other being the penalty saved by Brian Jensen. Dindane scored in the 84th minute to seal victory for Portsmouth.

Aston Villa continued their winning run and moved above Tottenham who has a game at hand. James Milner strengthened his position for a possible selection into the World Cup squad for England as he created the first goal for Richard Dunne and scored the second goal himself to give a 2-0 lead at half time. The third goal came in the 88th minute when John Carew converted the spot kick to make it 3-0 and clinch the fourth spot toppling Tottenham.
