Wenger relieved by the Gunners Victory

Arsene Wenger can drive out the criticism in his way after the mid week Carling Cup match against City. All the Gunners and Wenger needed was a victory and Arsenal managed to win the match against a resolute Stoke defence.

Arsenal had enough quality up in front with Andrei Arshavin being fantastic all throughout the match. It was Arshavin’s right and then left movement inside the Stoke box that earned the penalty when Rory Delap tackled him inside the box after he moved away from him through the left. Fabregas went in to take the spot kick but surprised many as he missed or rather a great save by Stoke keeper Sorensen. However, it was the brilliant Arshavin again who collected the ball from Fabregas and shot it at the far corner of the goal.

Arsenal had chances in the second half but the second goal came in the 79th minute when the young substitute Aaron Ramsey settled the issue with the second goal. Stoke did put up a good show but the brilliance of Arshavin made them look awry as they made mistakes deceived by his pace and movements. Arsenal moved to the 3rd place with the win and went above London rivals Tottenham who has a match at hand on Sunday.
