Aston Villa jump to third spot after defeating Sunderland 0-2
Aston Villa showed the mettle they’re made of as they pulled off a classy 0-2 victory against Sunderland to claim the third spot in the Premier League table. Dismounting Arsenal from the position, Aston Villa, high from their weekend victory Manchester United. Sunderland, on the other hand continued their disappointing run with two victories against Liverpool and Arsenal in their last nine matches.
Emile Heskey opened the scoring in the 24th minute through a low drive while James Milner gave the unprecedented lead in the 61st minute through a 25 yard goal. Villa now sit only five points shy of the Leaders and proved them have what it takes to be in the top 4 of the Premier League.
The Hammers were outclassed by Bolton and slumped further in the relegation zone after losing 3-1. Chung-Yong Lee took the lead for Bolton and soon Alessandro Diamanti levelled for West Ham. But keeper Robert Green’s sloppy work led to two more goals, first by Klasnic in the 77th minute and a Gary Cahill drive in the 88th minute. While Bolton managed the danger scare with this win, West Ham problems loom large.
Debutants Birmingham City notched the sixth spot in the Premiership Table as they defeated Blackburn Rovers 2-1 yesterday. Cameron Jerome was the star for Birmingham as he scored early on to give the hosts the lead. His first goal came off in the 12th minute which was then followed up a smart low finish in the 48th minute. Ryan Nelson got some hope for the Rovers in the 69th minute but the visitors just couldn’t do much after that.
