Hughes to be sacked?
Mark ‘Sparky’ Hughes faces the axe and might be sacked even if his Manchester City side wins their match this weekend against Sunderland. Reportedly, Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and owner Sheikh Mansour have given up faith in him after City lost 3-0 to Tottenham Hotspurs on Wednesday.
Replacement list contains big names including Guus Hiddink and Jurgen Klinsmann. The Russian Coach, Hiddink had done very well when he stood-in for Chelsea last season. His agent also claims that City has already made contact with him.
The former German coach, Klinsmann is currently out of management and is also high on the wanted list. Hughes has been at the City hem since June 2008 and has made heavy spending since then. A total of £250million has been spent thus far to revamp the ailing City side. But the Dubai owners state that the high investment hasn’t seen equal returns.
News suggest that the oweners have been furious for long but things cooled down after City defeated Chelsea 2-1 and then reach the Semi-finals of the Carling Cup. While the string of draws and medium performances from star players bought for millions hasn’t helped Sparky’s cause either.
In the meanwhile, City defender Pablo Zabaleta has been offered a 4 and a half years new contract.
