Liverpool, Manchester United lose to Pompey and Fulham
Bobby Zamora struck at the right time for Fulham as they had a dream win over Manchester United at Craven Cottage. The disappointing 3-0 loss might cost dearly to Man United who needed a win to pressure Chelsea in the Premier League table. Liverpool’s bad form continued as they sunk deeper in the hole and lost to Portsmouth 2-0.
Zamora seemed to be Fulham’s victory architect as he scored his 10th goal of this season in the 46th minute. Before that Danny Murphy who’s always troubled United opened the scoring with a low finish in the 22nd minute. Damien Duff scored the final goal in the75th minute to wrap up a well deserved win. Manchester United looked off key throughout the match and didn’t look anywhere near threatening Chelsea for the top position.
On the other side, Liverpool’s slump hit rock bottom as they were outplayed 2-0 by Portsmouth who sit at the lowest in the table. Javier Mascherano was red carded early on to reduce Liverpool to 10 men. Nadir Belhadj took advantage of the poor defending of the visitors when he scored in the 33rd minute. Late in the match, Frederic Piquionne scored through a volley to give Pompey a victory they have been looking for a very long time. Though the visitors did share possession at most times, their 4-5-1 formation troubled them for long.
