Chelsea fail to capitalise, draw with WHU


Leaders of the Prenmier League table couln’t cash in on Manchester United’s shock defeat to Fulham as they settled for a tame draw to a fighting West Ham side 1-1. It was the Hammers who got into the act early on and Alessandro Diamanti scored through a penalty. Jack Collison was fouled by Ashley Cole which gave the hosts a moment to go up.

The blues had many first half moments to be shy off when they gave away ball possession too easily and didn’t show the class that has taken them to the top of the table. Later in the second half, a harsh penalty was handed over to Matthew Upson for fouling Daniel Sturridge. Frank Lampard was the penalty taker and he took it three times and finally scored amidst boos by Hammers fans.

Though a win would was important at West Ham was Chelsea but it didn’t mean a bad week as Manchester United lost at Craven Cottage while Chelsea defeated Pompey earlier in the week.

In other matches played during the night, Everton had to settle for a draw with Birmigham and The Wolves defeated Burnley 2-0. Birmingham would have wanted to win but lost for the first time in six matches. But they still managed to inch ahead of Liverpool in their Premier League debut. Diniyar Bilyaletdinov was the scorer for the hosts early on while Larsson got the equaliser in the 22nd minute.

The Wolves had learnt much from their United loss and leaped out of the relegation with a win over Burnley. Milijas put the hosts ahead early while Doyle’s 50th minute goal gave them a convincing win.
