Liverpool break the shackles, Torres gives the victory

A goal in the 93rd minute of the match by Fernando Torres gave Liverpool the boost they desperately needed as they won against Aston Villa 0-1 at Villa Park. The dramatic victory gave the Reds a reprieve from the bad string of performances and results that they have been seeing so far in the Premier League and Champions League.

Villa’s spirited display in a snowy condition summed up how desperate both teams were to win yesterday. A draw seemed to be on the cards but Torres scored in the dying minutes to record his 50th league goal for Liverpool. The visitors earned 3 points which was a morale booster if not anything else. Villa had their chances but Pepe Reina was up to the task and made some fantastic saves.

Bolton and Hull shared points with a 2-2 draw and both found themselves sitting in the danger zone with 18 points each. Bolton always managed to get in front, first through Ivan Klasnic’s 20th minute goal and then through Kevin Davies header in the 60th minute. Stephen Hunt got Hull back both times, first heading a Fagan’s pass and then angling in a cross pass. The dramatic come back ending in a draw had Hull turning the match around within 7 minutes. Both teams still stay in the relegation zone with 18 points each but Hull will be happy to draw this away encounter.
