Classy United defeat sluggish Arsenal 1-3
Arsenal were totally outclassed by Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium 1-3. The Premier League encounter last night saw the two teams battle it out to challenge Chelsea for the top spot but Arsenal came short of their goal. They were slow, sluggish and totally out styled by United who were surely better on that day.
The counter-attacking of Wayne Rooney and Nani was something that the Gunners’ slow pace and passing had no reply. Nani’s finesse confused Arsenal keeper Manuel Almunia and forced him to cross pass an own goal in the 33rd minute to open the floodgates for United. Four minutes later, Rooney set up his 100th goal of the Premier League to mark the supremacy of the visitors on the game.
Ji-Sung Park then showed the poor defensing of the hosts as he scored from inside his own half totally unchallenged. A defected shot off Thomas Vermaelen’s boot then set up some hope for the home fans and also a flurry of smarter football. But it was too late in the day and the United charm was turning attack into defense and vice versa too soon for Arsenal to handle. United now stand only one point away from Chelsea and are the front runners to dethrone them.
In the match at Eastlands, Emmanuel Adebayor returned in excellent form and scored to give his side a 2-0 win over crisis ridden Portsmouth. Vincent Kompany’s header right at the edge of half time then gave them a lead that Pompey looked incapable to beat. An eight yard shot in the 80th minute off the boot of Carlos Tevez hit the bar else there would be an emphatic three goal lead. Manchester City now continue to press Tottenham for the fourth spot in the table with two matches to spare over them.
