Premier League Weekender – Manchester United out in front by 9 Points
In yesterday’s Premier League games Tottenham won 1-0 at the Hawthorns against West Brom and Manchester City were held to a 2-2 draw with Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.
The game between Spurs and the Baggies was a close encounter until the game swung in the visitors favour in the 48th minute. On-loan Baggies defender Goran Popov was dismissed for apparently spitting at Spurs full-back Kyle Walker.
The only goal of the game came in the 67th minute. Gareth Bale struck a fantastic swerving effort from just outside the edge of the penalty area that thundered past Ben Foster in the West Brom goal.
The three points put Spurs just a point behind third place Chelsea and three points clear of the chasing pact.
Elsewhere, Manchester City took the lead on 23 minutes against Liverpool, through an Edin Dzeko strike. The Reds were back on level terms six minutes later through a superb strike from former-City ace Daniel Sturridge.
Liverpool took the lead in the 73rd minute through a superb volley from Steven Gerrard from 25 yards out. City equalised in the 78th minute. Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina had a rush of blood and ran out of his goal, only for City striker Sergio Aguero to nip in and score brilliantly from an acute angle.
The draw leaves Manchester City nine points behind arch-rivals Manchester United at the top of the Premier League table.
