Manchester City Must Go All in on Alexis Sanchez This Summer

Alexis Sanchez was Arsenal’s shining light in what was a very disappointing campaign for the Gunners. Arsene Wenger’s men failed to qualify for this season’s Champions League, ending the campaign in fifth position – the first time Arsenal have missed out on Europe’s elite club competition since the Frenchman arrived at the club.

With Arsenal now out of the Champions League, Sanchez could push for a move away from the Emirates Stadium. On his day, the Chile international is arguably one of the best talents in world football and he should be playing on the big stage. A transfer to Manchester City would certainly have plenty of appeal as Sanchez looks to further his career.

According to statistics collected by WhoScored, Sanchez scored 24 goals and assisted 10 for his teammates in 36 Premier League fixtures. Without his goals, Arsenal may have missed out on the Europa League – he carried the Gunners through parts of the campaign. The 28-year-old is out of contract next year and nobody quite knows whether he will stay or leave this summer.

Just imagine that City attack if Sanchez moves to the Etihad Stadium. With Sergio Aguero and newcomer Gabriel Jesus leading the line, Sanchez would provide the ideal support for the front two to flourish. Throw Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva in there and Pep Guardiola will be laughing at just how talented his offensive unit is. All goalscoring records could be under serious threat!

Luckily for Gunners fans, signs indicate that the club are not looking to sell Sanchez before the end of the transfer window. The Chile star was a pivotal figure at the launch of Arsenal’s third kit – which may suggest that Sanchez is set to stay at the Emirates for at least one more season. Another year of Sanchez, alongside new signing Alexandre Lacazette, could see the Gunners challenge for the crown.

As of July 12th, Arsenal are 11/1 to win the title in football betting markets but City know that Sanchez could give them the edge in the race for Premier League glory. Guardiola is reportedly keen on signing the Chile star but the Blues may have to fork out £60 million to sign the Arsenal man. Whichever way you look at it, that is steep for a player with just one year left on his current deal.

However, you could argue that Sanchez – coming off the back of the best season of his career – would make City contenders in the Champions League as well and that will certainly appeal to the Blues owners. When they decided to appoint Guardiola, City’s standpoint was clear: we will win the Champions League. If City sign Sanchez, they stand a decent chance of European glory.

The ultimate goal for Guardiola’s men next season is to win the Premier League and go far in Europe and the Blues will be quietly confident of achieving both. Signing Sanchez isn’t an absolute necessity but his impact would help rather than hinder a City squad that struggled to inspire confidence at times during the previous campaign. Guardiola is building a monster at City and Sanchez would fit in as one of his main men.
