Since Brendan Rodgers took over Celtic in May 2016, they have dominated the Scottish Premiership. His first season in charge saw the historic Scottish club complete the perfect season. It started with a comfortable 3-0 win over Aberdeen in December 2016 to win the Scottish League Cup. Their league form followed this success. Celtic remained undefeated the entire 16/17 season. The highlight of this brilliant league form came when they secured the league title with eight games to spare. This total domination allowed them to finish the season 30 points ahead of second-placed Aberdeen. Rodgers’ all-powerful Celtic finished their season in style, winning the Scottish Cup in May 2017 and completing the domestic treble. With Champion League qualification and a plethora of trophies, Brendan Rodgers couldn’t have asked for a better start to his career at Celtic.

This emphatic success earned Rodgers a 4-year contract extension and the chance to further develop his invincible squad. In January 2018, Rodgers spent money on long-term players that could help his side defend their held trophies. Jack Hendry, the 22-year-old Irish centre-back, was brought in for £1.5 million. Hendry has started well at Celtic and his professional performance on his international debut only further convinced Rodgers he’d spent well. Rodgers stated: “Jack has the qualities to play for Celtic and the international team for the next 10 years.” With smart buys like Jack Hendry, Celtic can push on for a second successive domestic treble.

This season’s campaign has started well. Celtic eased past Aberdeen once again to win the 2017 Scottish League cup. They, also, as it stands, sit top of the Scottish Premiership with a ten-point lead. Only the Scottish Cup remains to be secured but Celtic have already progressed to the semi-final. As of March 30th, Celtic are 8/13 in the Scottish football betting with bet365 to win the cup outright. They need only maintain their current level of performance to win a historic second treble.

It’s not all sunshine and praise for Roger’s Celtic however. The Scottish side are yet to make their mark in Europe. After barely surviving their Champion’s League group, Celtic crashed out of the Europa League with an embarrassing 3-0 loss to Zenit. The international scene often brings Celtic back down to earth, reminding their fans they are only on top in Scotland. If Rodgers wants to be remembered outside of Glasgow, he’ll have to start performing in Europe.

Celtic now have the opportunity to make history. No Scottish club has ever won two successive domestic trebles and Rodgers has the skill set to achieve this. Looking further forward, Celtic are still on track for their dream ten Premiership titles in a row. The return of Rangers to the top flight may cause issues, however, with the Old Firm counterpart back to their boastful ways. Despite this, Celtic fans can remain optimistic. If the treble is secured this season, it is proof that Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic are truly something special.
